Today I’m besotted with…

…this ASOS Salon prom dress in gem floral print. Oh the swishing one could do on the dance floor in that. Gorgeous.

ASOS have just added a few new frocks (want them all) to their Salon collection which launched earlier in the year.  And I have a bit of thing for brown floral at the moment and recently wore a Liberty lawn-esque (not sure if it actually is or not) dress of my mother’s from the 70′s to a wedding recently. The pussy bow and knee-length style is still just as fabulous as it was when she wore.  Thanks mum for keeping your dresses!

Black lace, Deathly Hallows and bohemian Helena Bonham-Carter.

So last night I was lucky enough to go the world premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows  at London’s Leceister Square.  Needless to say I was exceptionally excited, as I am a fan of the books and films and couldn’t wait to see the stars in the flesh.

The red was foaming from all the rain (literally) but the fans were there in their thousands and it was all a very surreal experience.  The question of course was what to wear and I still didn’t know 20 minutes before I left. Red velvet or black floral and lace? It was bucketing with rain anyway so in the end I threw on the floral and black lace Topshop frock with my witchy boots from New York and a warm black coat.

Emma Watson, Clemence Posey and J.K. Rowling all looked glamorous in lace. Very fitting for a film essentially about witches and wizards. Rowling  was almost channelling Stevie Nicks circa 1985 but it was Watson, the fashion world’s favourite young actress who stole the show in her extremely short, feathered Rafael Lopez for vintage store Atelier Mayer dress.  Oh to have her legs.

The film itself was terrifying and I can’t believe I have to wait to see the final film and second half of the Deathly Hallows. At one point I jumped about ten feet in the air and booted the chair in front of me a bit too hard (sorry dude sitting in front of me).

But the  highlight of the evening for me was seeing Tim Burton and Helena Bonham-Carter in the flesh , with their children in tow.  They were leaving the theatre at the same time as us, coming down the stairs from the circle (along with J.K. Rowling) where all the big-wigs sit.

I just love the way she looked.  As my colleague said to me today when I was telling her about the evening, “Okay I know you like Helena but she looks a mess! And what’s going on with the hair?”

Yes, a mess perhaps but a beautiful mess with poppies in her hair and a purple Vivienne Westwood frock.  I’d be quite happy to look as half a beautiful mess.

If I was lucky enough to choose between all their amazing gowns however, I’d choose Clemence Posey’s Chanel dress. Very vintage, very gorgeous and very me.

Right I’m off to the shops for a bottle of red. Have a great weekend everyone!

A very glitzy collar.

I want. Only £18 from Topshop.  I know, it’s not really bank account busting but I’m trying my hardest to save for our coming trip to San Francisco.

But it could be worn in a number of ways with many outfits I already own.  And I do love a collar.

Caped crusader or ladylike leopard?

I really want a new winter coat. Or a cape. But I can’t decide which. Please help.

I’m in love with this boiled wool leopard number from Zara, which I could make or buy a Peter Pan collar for.  It looks very sleek and flattering unlike the big fluffy teddy bear-esque fake fur coats that are so popular at this time of year.

I’m equally enamoured with the idea of wearing a lovely black cape.  I just haven’t found the right style yet. This asos one comes pretty close. I tried my hardest to get a vintage black cape on eBay last Winter but never managed to find the right one that was in my price range. When I did buy a plaid one from eBay two winters ago it was ‘lost’ in the post so I gave up on that idea all together.

Is it too military? Should I be trying to find one more Victorian or nurse style? Will it make me look the size of house? Does it only work with jeans or is it okay with a frock underneath? What will I do with my handbag and endless other bags that I seem to be lugging around constantly?

Please let me know what you think so I can decide! Cape or coat?

Summer nightie dresses and Blondie in the park

…whoops. Just bought a dress from Topshop online. Didn’t mean to but it’s just so hot and I can’t remember what I used to wear last Summer…

Lovely though isn’t it. Very me and looks like a vintage nightie. This week has been a bad and busy week (three hour commutes to get home due to broken trains and very, very busy) so I think I deserve it!

Can’t wait for it to arrive – hopefully in time to wear it to Blondie at Kenwood House tomorrow. Looking forward to a picnic in the sun (fingers crossed?) and getting some vitamin D.

Also in love with this Peter Pan collar scarlet lace frock from Topshop.

Clerkenwell treasure hunt

I’m looking forward to the first anniversary of the Clerkenwell Vintage Fashion Fair this Sunday. It’s a good while since I’ve been and it’s moved venues to The Old Finsbury Town Hall in Rosebery Avenue. Most of it is out of my price range but I can dream right! But you never know what I might find.

As it’s the fair’s birthday there will be extra festivities including works of art created from vintage pieces, the opportunity to get dressed up for your own photo shoot, an alterations booth, silhouette papercuts and extraordinary ‘organic’ tea sets (whatever that may be).

Amazing.
